In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. George Orwell.

You feel true regret for your sins and you decide to follow Christ all your life.

Repent: discard all that is evil to God and embrace the teachings of  Christ.
Baptize: be submerged in water, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Once you have read the Gospel and have fully accepted it as the truth, you can then enter the phase of repentance and feel true remorse for your past sins  - this just happens; you cannot do it. You may be dragged to tears or just feel deep regret; either way, this will be a very sincere and painful feeling in your heart. Without this, you are not ready for the Baptism. Continue in prayer, reading, studying and questioning.  Do not worry about repairing any damage you have done to others if you are not capable to repair this, for this is not a requirement, Jesus never said this.  He said Repent and Baptise, and gave you a doctrine which reflects the meaning of 'Repentance'.

MARK  1: 4  John did baptize in the wilderness, and preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.  (note: this does not mean that there is another baptism: there is but one.)
MAT  3: 13  Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

MAT  3: 14  But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
MAT  3: 15  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Jesus' death on the cross is no atonement for sin! Atonement for sin is 'individual repentance' completed with baptism, after which you are ready to receive the Holy Ghost.  Imagine that Jesus' death would literally be atonement for sin!  Why then would we need repentance and baptism, while our sins were already forgiven through Jesus' death on the cross? This quote is a METAPHOR.  His death on the cross completed the process during which he gave us the means to find salvation:- faith, repentance and baptism, but was and is no atonement for any sins!  Do not be fooled by smooth talking fake preachers who have anything in mind but to win you for the kingdom of heaven.

Once repented and Baptised, there is no further remission for sins:
HEB  10: 26  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
HEB  10: 27  But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Everything you part with during your repentance, preparing for your baptism, is a sacrifice; a spiritual sacrifice, other than the old testament's fleshly sacrifice God demanded from the Jews. In Christianity, we deal with spiritual sacrifices.
